Anticipation

Jesus Hands

Every Wednesday we’ll post something to do with doctrine and recovery. Hope it helps. — Anticipation Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.  (I John 3: 2-3) Love it, or sick of it already, I know you’ve heard this sung repeatedly by now: “Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow Will find it hard to sleep Continue Reading

Facing The Fire

faith

Every Wednesday we’ll post something to do with doctrine and recovery.  — Facing the Fire “Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire ---” I Corinthians 3:11-13 Any Christian feeling a call to service should get a good grasp on the parable of stewardship in Matthew 25:14-30. It describes a master commissioning his servants with differing amounts of money, then taking a Continue Reading

The Madness of “Mine”

forgive

Every Monday we’ll post something to do with maintaining sexual purity. Hope it helps. — The Madness of “Mine” I was driving in the front seat trying really hard to be the driver Thinking that I was making real good time But always winding up a late arriver But now I’ve been riding in the back seat and I find it is a very great relief Now I’m trying out the back seat And I’m leaving all the driving to The Chief. - “Front Seat Back Seat” by Chuck Girard and Tom Coomes” That was a popular Christian song when I Continue Reading

Tears of Remembrance On Good Friday

crown of thorns 2

Every Friday we’ll take a break from topical posts and will post some random personal thoughts. — Tears of Remembrance on Good Friday I cried when I saw Schindler’s List, copiously and without embarrassment. The film taught me nothing new about the holocaust, so it didn’t educate me. But it reminded me, via graphic story-telling, of something unfathomable, something that should regularly be remembered and grieved. So weeping was called for. But afterwards I had to ask myself So what? Would crying erase the suffering, much less Continue Reading

Some Thoughts About the Marriage Debate

rebuilding-her-shattered-trust-marriage-matters

This week we will hear arguments presented to the US Supreme Court which will, most likely, settle the legality of same-sex marriage once and for all. So far the justices are predictably divided – 3 for the traditional view; 3 for revision; Justice Kennedy  providing the swing vote.  Two cases are under consideration here: The Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8, voted into place by California voters in 2008 as a defense of traditional marriage. Whatever the outcome, there’ll be anguish and elation, simultaneously, Continue Reading

You, Interrupted

Solution - break the rule

Every Wednesday we’ll post something to do with doctrine and recovery. Hope it helps. — You, Interrupted And when Jesus beheld him, He said, ‘Thou art Simon the son of Jonah: thou shalt be called Cephas’ which is by interpretation, A stone. -John 1:42 Think you know yourself? You do, I’m sure, as much as your limited experience, intellect and perspective will allow. But in this, as in all matters of human understanding, it’s through a glass darkly, partial and obscured, incomplete. (I Corinthians 13:12) Because you, as Continue Reading

The Vanishing Edge

vanishing edge

Every Monday we’ll post something about maintaining your sexual integrity. Hope it helps. — The Vanishing Edge We were out to dinner with a couple this weekend and, as often happens, the husbands paired off while the wives engaged in their own conversation. My friend and I started commiserating and complaining about the usual – not enough time, too little energy, too much uncertainty. It felt good to vent and be vented to, but one point he brought up especially resonated with me. “We need margins”, he noted, “and when we’ve Continue Reading

You’re Grounded!

lemon tree

Every Wednesday we’ll post something having to do with doctrine and purity. Hope it helps. — You’re Grounded! That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,  may be able to comprehend with all saints what [is] the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;  and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.  - Ephesians 3:17-19 There’s a large flowerpot in my backyard, perched a few yards from my lemon tree, both of Continue Reading

Rebel Without a Clause

faith

Every Monday we’ll post something about maintaining your sexual integrity. Hope it helps. — Rebel Without a Clause The idea that this world is a playground instead of a battleground has now been accepted in practice by the vast majority of Christians. - A.W. Tozer Today I will, like you, be presented with countless opportunities to misuse my sexual self. There will be images I’ll pass on the street or the mall, unclean memories from past wrongdoings, fantasies that intrude like unwanted pop-ups on the computer. And every time Continue Reading

Random Ramblings #47: A Tale of Two Pastors

Luis

Every Friday we’ll leave the topic oriented post, and instead post some personal comments. — That whoosh you’re hearing is the sound of the world spinning around you as it continues going upside down. Listen to the news and you can’t help but hear it. Today’s reminder concerns Pastor Luis Giglio, an accomplished and widely regarded minister who was scheduled to deliver President Obama’s benediction during his inaugural ceremony. Scheduled, as in past tense, because it recently came to light that a decade ago the reverend Continue Reading
