Let’s Unite in Prayer for Boston

prayer

I’ll be taping a series of interviews at Daystar Television in Texas on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. In lieu of the normal Marriage and Doctrine postings I do on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, let’s instead continue in prayer over Monday’s horrific attack on Boston. Please join me in bringing these requests before the throne: May God touch and grant supernatural strength and comfort to the families who lost loved ones. May God heal the injured, and ease their pain. May God immediately intervene and prevent any further attacks Continue Reading

Getting the Sound Bite Right

gold apple

Every Thursday I’ll post an article having to do with either relational or emotional matters. Hope it helps. — Getting the Sound Bite Right “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a picture of silver.” -Proverbs 25:11 My lovely wife gets all the breaks. She’s warm and inviting, a friendly woman who extends herself easily. I’m reserved, somewhat shy, not good at small talk and, according to feedback I’ve gotten since I was 3 months old, not friendly looking. So everybody loves Renee, and wonders what she’s Continue Reading

Some Thoughts About the Marriage Debate

rebuilding-her-shattered-trust-marriage-matters

This week we will hear arguments presented to the US Supreme Court which will, most likely, settle the legality of same-sex marriage once and for all. So far the justices are predictably divided – 3 for the traditional view; 3 for revision; Justice Kennedy  providing the swing vote.  Two cases are under consideration here: The Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8, voted into place by California voters in 2008 as a defense of traditional marriage. Whatever the outcome, there’ll be anguish and elation, simultaneously, Continue Reading

Releasing My Wounder

forgive

Every Thursday I’ll post an article having to do with either relational or emotional matters. Hope it helps. — Releasing My Wounder We’ve all got them – wounds, past injuries of the soul that still show themselves, either in current pain or current behavior. They can show themselves in current pain through memories that just won’t die. Sometimes a mental picture of a traumatic event, like a childhood humiliation or tragedy, keeps intruding into your thoughts. Maybe you let yourself relive it, and all the pain of the event Continue Reading

You Said It

speech bubbles-1

Every Thursday I’ll post an article having to do with either relational or emotional matters. Hope it helps. — You Said It “Words are like eggs dropped from great heights; you can no more call them back than ignore the mess they leave when they fall.” ― Jodi Picoult, Salem Falls You’re leaving a trail. It goes all the way back to when you first learned to speak, and it represents your beliefs, feelings and priorities over the years. It’s a trail that’s blessed some, offering comfort and inspiration, and laid a Continue Reading

You’re Grounded!

lemon tree

Every Wednesday we’ll post something having to do with doctrine and purity. Hope it helps. — You’re Grounded! That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,  may be able to comprehend with all saints what [is] the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;  and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.  - Ephesians 3:17-19 There’s a large flowerpot in my backyard, perched a few yards from my lemon tree, both of Continue Reading

A Doll’s Lesson

doll lesson

Every Monday we’ll post something about maintaining your sexual integrity. Hope it helps. — A Doll’s Lesson Jan Frank, a terrific author, speaker and therapist dealing with women’s issues, made a point decades ago during one of her presentations that I’ve never forgotten. While teaching a workshop to counselors on surviving sexual abuse, she pulled out three little dolls. One of them had an upraised fist, one was tied up with a rope, and the third had its arm in a sling. “Each one of these has a problem, right?” she asked the Continue Reading

Wanting to Will

hands

Every Monday we’ll post something about maintaining your sexual integrity. Hope it helps. — Wanting to Will  “Draw me, and we will run after thee.” - Song of Songs 1:4 God initiates; we respond. So whatever we do by way of worship, service, or obedience, it’s done only because He first gave us the desire, then the ability, then the opportunity. Paul summed it up nicely: “For it is God who worketh in you, both to will, and to do of His good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13)  So ours is no fifty/fifty contract between two Continue Reading

Remembering and Honoring Veterans

Veterans Day

There’s honor in fighting, assuming the situation calls for it and the fighting is fair. So our Veterans Day remembrances and appreciations are good and relevant, and my hat tips while my heart says Thank You and Thank God for You to our Vets. Today’s the day for reflections on both the nobility of sacrifice and the misery warfare brings. Not that I know, not really. Scratch that – not at all. I never fought, and to this day I don’t know how to feel about that. When I was 18 (1973) we still had the draft and the lottery system, under Continue Reading

Handle With Care

handle with care

Every Wednesday we’ll post something to do with doctrine and recovery.  — Handle With Care There has been grave error. I do not mean so much error of doctrine as error of emphasis. A.W. Tozer Let’s not be too quick to say how much we love the truth. People avoid standing on their bathroom scales because they’re not at all sure they want the hard facts. Checkbook registers are ignored, along with ATM receipts, because plenty of consumers prefer not knowing how low their balance really is. Medical checkups get put off for Continue Reading
