Random Ramblings #24: Post-Thanksgiving Thoughts and Pepper Spray

Every Friday we’ll leave the topic oriented post, and instead post some personal comments.

A Cuppa Joe – Random Ramblings from a Fellow Struggler

I’ll ask this very quietly – how ya doin’? I’m whispering because I have the decency to assume you’re as wiped out as I am, and a loud voice is the last thing you need.

That’s not to suggest you drank too much yesterday. I certainly didn’t. But I everything’d too much, then washed it down with — everything. And upon viewing the aftermath in the dining room, living room, kitchen (God have mercy!) and den, everything nearly came back. Which is to say it was a terrific Thanksgiving in our house, and I sure hope it was in yours, too.

For at least 20 people in the LA area it was far from terrific, at least in the end. Last night a woman in Wal-Mart who takes her Black Friday shopping quite seriously used pepper spray on other shoppers who had their eyes on items she wanted. 20 customers were injured; the lady with the can is still (as of this writing) at large. I have to ask: Did she get the stuff she wanted so badly? Did she pay for it, and if so, how on earth did she manage to stand in line inconspicuously? Or did she just walk out with it, and if so, how did she pull that off? I’ve shopped at Wal-Mart and have been frisked upon leaving, so how’d she pull it off? In my fantasies I see this Queen of Chutzpah trying to return a couple of unsatisfactory items. (“I sprayed for these and they don’t work!”) This is the stuff great Woody Allen films are made of, and I look forward to the developing story.

I also look forward to a weekend of recovery and renewal for all of us. We’ve fully entered the season, as if you didn’t know, with Christmas music now omnipresent (fine by me; I’m a sucker for it all), lights up on the houses of the truly diligent, and stressing over who gets what and how we’ll pay for it. It’s a lovely test, really, of our ability to exercise the sound minds He gave us and keep a proper focus. God grant we pass with A’s. Have a wonderful weekend.

Joe! Very funny quips there. I did hear that she actually got the XBOX she wanted, waited in line, paid for it and walked out. Think about it... all the people who actually saw her were pepper sprayed. I doubt they could see her afterward and in the melee ... she must be a sociopath or something... she just blended right in.

She's apparently a stupid sociopath because they will get her with surveillance tapes and credit card receipts but ... she got what she wanted. ... for now.

I do not even venture out on Bleak Friday! Well, okay, I lied. I did go to Curves and Trader Joes, and oh, the gas station. But that's it! I don't even own pepper spray, much less did I use it. People are just plain weird it seems. Happy Hooligans . . . I mean Holidays.
