Random Ramblings #28: The Blogs in My Own Eye

Every Friday we’ll take a break from topical posts and will post some random personal thoughts.

A Cuppa Joe – Random Ramblings from a Fellow Struggler

The Blogs in My Own Eye

You’ll see plenty of Top Ten lists this weekend, usually centered around news stories or entertainment. But since this blogging thing is still relatively new to me, I’ve got a fresh appreciation for women and men who take time, sometimes daily, to crank out thoughts and commentary over the web. So today, let me salute the blogs I click onto regularly by listing them in alphabetical order (no 1-10 rankings here) in hopes you’ll visit these folks and see if you share my high view of them.

Big Hollywood

Conservative Hollywood insiders (!) share their insights on current films, favorites DVD’s and social issues. Nice to know these guys are there, and further proof there’s always a remnant in the most unlikely places.

Christian Research Institute

With a decades-long history, CRI remains a reliable source for apologetics-oriented articles on faith and culture. Good to check into when trying to articulate a Biblically based world view approach to difficult subjects.

Covenant Eyes

Not only a reliable online accountability product, Covenant Eyes provides testimonials and encouragement for people serious about their purity.

Lilly Green

Christian composer and author Lilly Green veers surprisingly between the breezy and the serious, always with a thoughtful, down to earth tone. She’s the neighbor you hope you’ll move in next to, funny, easy to chat with, sometimes edgy, and always interesting.

Parchment and Pen

One of my favorite sights for insights and commentary based on sound doctrine. Never fails to edify, and more than once I’ve had posting ideas sparked by reading articles on this site.

Phoenix Preacher

Sometimes controversial, and occasionally critical of leaders I admire greatly. Still, the posts on PP educate me on a variety of doctrinal points, challenge me to rethink my positions, and they’re written with care for detail and balance. The comments alone can be worth a click.

Randall Slack

Randall’s a pastor and writes like one, sometimes including articles from the classics, and sometimes offering his own thoughts. (Some especially tender and enlightening posts about his family are well worth a read) This is a solid, Bible based and practical site, good daily bread.

Randy Thomas

Thomas is hard to pigeon hole because topically, everything’s on the table at his site. Look for witty, edgy remarks from a conservative Christian who, somewhat O’Reilly-like, critiques the Left, Right and Center without prejudice. Respectfully provocative stuff, and great fun.

Ravi Zacharias

Like CRI, a reliable and accessible source for reason and debate from a Christian world view. Zacharias is a teacher and equipper, and reading him regularly is, for me, a tool-sharpener.

Those are my favorites, who have my respect for their contributions and diligence. If you’re not familiar with them, I hope you give them a try. And of course, I also hope you have a wonderful, safe and blessed New Year. Thanks for being here.

WifeBoat – Renee Dallas

Yes, I know my wife’s the blogger on this one, so no pretense of objectivity here. Still, I know it’s a worthwhile blog for women in pain over the husband’s sexual behavior. Renee writes as a woman who works regularly with such women, and I know first hand how hard she strives to keep her comments fair, kind and scriptural. I’m proud to say this site is both a tool and a haven, one which I’d recommend no matter who ran it.

Your too kind, Joe. Your ministry, your commitment to Jesus and serving others, your love for your wife and children all serve as an example of the Grace of God toward sinful men. Like Paul, you exemplify this passage of Scripture: "However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life." (1 Timothy 1:16, NKJV)
A very happy new year, my friend.
