Good Debate on ‘God and the Gay Christian’ this AM on Moody Radio

VinesThose of you who followed my series on Matthew Vine’s book God and the Gay Christian will be interested to know that Matthew and my friend Dr. Michael Brown had an informal debate this morning on Moody Radio. Michael did an excellent job, which is no surprise to me at all, and the discussion was civil and informative. My only complaint was that very, very little time was given to discussing the specific Old and New Testament scriptures referencing homosexuality, and how both Dr. Brown and Matthew interpret those scriptures differently. I was left frustrated over that, because what the Bible does or does not say is what should, and does,
conclude the matter.

Still, it was an awfully good discussion, and Dr. Brown represented the traditional Biblical perspective extremely well. I’m proud to call him a friend and colleague.

If you’d like to hear the debate you can find it here: http://www.moodyradio.org/radioplayer.aspx?episode=136284   (Sorry – for some reason the “link” isn’t working on my computer so I have to give you the whole link address)

God bless – hope you’re having a great weekend.
Love,
Joe

Interesting discussion, but they probably did not give Matthew enough time to really build his case. It is difficult, I find, to believe something to be truth (biblical traditional marriage), and yet not to marginalize or treat with disrespect those who oppose us and who Christ would have us love. It is hard to know practically what love looks like in some--many--situations anyway, but in this, problematic. Many parts of the Church have not done well the whole love the sinner and hate the sin thing. It sounds righteous, but often it becomes hate the sin, sometimes the sinner, too; and if not hate, at least keep at a good distance from ecclesiastical embrace.
